I think he was both, but I'm leaning more toward villain.
I think it's admirable that he came from Argentina's upper class and somehow came to recognize that oppression and inequality in all of Latin America is a problem, but I think that the way he went about advocating for his cause earns him status as a villain. However, I think that the propaganda issued by our country against communism has definitely affected my ability to judge the situation fairly. Another thing to consider is that the United States has also tried to impose our form of government on other countries and has killed thousands of people in the process.
